August 7, 2025: In a significant move aimed at modernising the state’s land administration, the Maharashtra government has approved a Rs 1,732 crore package to enhance land survey operations and upgrade the infrastructure of the Revenue Department.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar. Of the total amount, Rs 132 crore has been allocated for the procurement of 1,200 advanced surveying rovers, while Rs 1,600 crore will go towards the construction of new office buildings and staff residences across the state. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule confirmed the development and outlined the scope of the project.
The investment will also include the purchase of high-quality vehicles for field officials and steps to strategically relocate Land Records offices closer to District Collector offices, ensuring better coordination and improved service delivery.
A major component of this initiative is the acceleration of the state’s digital land mapping efforts through the ‘E-Survey 2.0’ system. The acquisition of 1,200 high-precision rovers is expected to significantly enhance the speed and accuracy of land surveys, reducing manual intervention and disputes related to land boundaries. Officials have been instructed to prioritise the procurement and deployment of these rovers, with the aim of completing the initial phase without delay.
By modernising survey technology and investing in infrastructure, the government aims to create a more transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly land records system. This move is expected to benefit landowners, property developers, farmers, and administrative bodies by streamlining processes and improving data accuracy.
The initiative marks a key step in Maharashtra’s broader digital governance and rural development goals, aligning with national efforts to enhance land management across India.
