August 13, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a major demolition drive in Airoli after recipients of prior notices failed to comply, officials said. The operation was overseen by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe, and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr. Kailas Gaikwad.
Within the G-Division limits, unauthorised constructions were identified near Chandrabai Heights in Sector 2 and at Samruddhi Hotel, Plot No. 22, Sector 1, Airoli. These structures, erected by Vinod Kamble and Vinod Chhaganbhai Jajoria without valid building permissions, had previously been served notices under Sections 53(1A) and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, requiring voluntary removal. Despite repeated warnings, construction continued.
Following the demolition, penalties of Rs 50,000 were imposed on each violator, amounting to a total of Rs 1,00,000. In addition, illegal roadside slums near the water tank in Sector 9, along the Ghansoli-Airoli highway, which obstructed traffic, were removed as part of the operation.
The drive was executed with support from Assistant Commissioner and Division Officer Sunil Kathole, encroachment department staff, ten labourers, one JCB, two breakers, a gas cutter, and police personnel.
The Airoli demolition initiative highlights the civic body’s resolve to enforce regulations and maintain orderly urban development in Navi Mumbai. By taking decisive action against violators who ignored prior notices, the NMMC aims to ensure compliance with urban planning norms and protect public spaces from unauthorised encroachments.
