October 14, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a major demolition and clearance drive in Andheri West, targeting illegal structures and footpath encroachments near Bhavan’s College. The operation, led by officials from the K/West ward, was aimed at restoring public access, ensuring pedestrian safety, and improving traffic movement in the busy locality.
During the drive, BMC officials systematically dismantled unauthorized constructions that had obstructed footpaths and encroached on public roads. The civic body stated that the action was taken to reclaim public space and address long-standing complaints from residents about reduced accessibility and safety hazards caused by illegal encroachments.
According to BMC officials, the initiative is part of the civic administration’s ongoing campaign to maintain urban order and enforce development regulations across the city. The clearance has not only opened up vital pedestrian pathways but also eased traffic congestion in the area.
“The operation aimed to restore normal traffic flow and ensure that public spaces were accessible and safe for everyone,” a BMC official said. The official added that the civic team remains committed to safeguarding citizen convenience and maintaining a clean, organized urban environment.
With the encroachments removed, pedestrian movement has become safer, reducing the risk of accidents and ensuring smoother connectivity for local commuters. The BMC has also indicated that regular monitoring and follow-up actions will continue to prevent re-encroachment and preserve the cleared spaces.
This demolition drive reflects the BMC’s renewed focus on urban discipline and public safety, reinforcing its role in upholding city infrastructure standards and ensuring fair use of public land.
