October 22, 2025: At least seven people were injured on Wednesday afternoon when a section of an old residential structure collapsed in Mumbai’s Madanpura locality, civic officials confirmed. The incident occurred around 12:48 p.m. at the Fanuswala Building, a single-storey structure in central Mumbai, when a portion of its first floor suddenly gave way, trapping several residents beneath the debris.
Swift Rescue Response
Following the collapse, the Mumbai Fire Brigade immediately dispatched four fire engines to the site and began rescue and relief operations. Firefighters and civic staff worked together to clear the rubble and safely extract the trapped individuals. The injured were quickly transported to two nearby hospitals for treatment.
Assessment and Safety Measures Underway
While the exact cause of the collapse remains under investigation, officials have not yet disclosed the building’s age or prior structural condition. Structural engineers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been called in to evaluate the stability of the remaining structure and ensure safety in the surrounding area.
Debris removal operations continue at the site, with authorities monitoring the building’s condition to prevent further damage. The incident has once again raised concerns about the structural integrity of aging residential properties in Mumbai’s older neighbourhoods, particularly during the post-monsoon period when such incidents are more common.
