Traffic Diversions Announced On GMLR For Metro-4 Steel Span Installation In Mumbai

October 29, 2025: Mumbai Police has announced temporary traffic restrictions along the Bhandup–Sonapur stretch of the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road (GMLR) to facilitate ongoing construction work for Mumbai Metro Line 4. The restrictions will be in effect during the installation of a 56-metre-long steel span at the GMLR (Bhandup Sonapur) Junction on Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg.

According to the notification, the steel span will be installed in two phases, requiring cranes, multiaxle trailers, and other heavy machinery. The road will remain closed on November 1, 2025 (10 pm to 10 am) and November 2, 2025 (10 pm to 7 am). If work remains incomplete, additional closures will occur on November 8 and 9 during the same nighttime hours. One lane at the junction will also remain closed between November 3 and December 31, 2025, for connection and finishing works.

To ease traffic flow, the police have issued alternate routes. Vehicles traveling from Powai and JVLR towards Mulund via LBS Road will be diverted through JVLR – Eastern Expressway – GMLR/Airoli Junction – Dungarshi Padmasi Nagda Chowk – Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Road – Mulund West. Those heading from Mulund West to Kanjurmarg and Bhandup West will use the JVLR–Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Road–Eastern Expressway route. Traffic from Kanjurmarg–Bhandup West areas towards Mulund East and West will be redirected through Kalpana Chawla/Madhuban Garden, Balkrishna Tatoji Shinde Chowk, and Subhash Nagar Road.

The 35.2-km-long Metro Line 4 will include 32 stations and operate fully automated 8-car trains. Once operational, it will enhance east-west connectivity across Mumbai, linking key residential, commercial, and educational hubs while easing congestion on major arterial routes.
