Flash Strike Chaos: Viral Video Of Mumbai AC Local Running With Open Doors Sparks Public Anger

November 07, 2025: A viral video showing a Mumbai AC local train running with its doors open and passengers hanging out dangerously has triggered outrage on social media. The incident occurred on Thursday between Thane and Kalyan amid severe overcrowding caused by a sudden flash strike by railway employees.

The strike was launched after an FIR was filed against two railway engineers in connection with the June 9 Mumbra train accident. The abrupt work stoppage disrupted suburban rail services, forcing thousands of commuters to scramble for limited trains once partial operations resumed. Overcrowded platforms, chaotic queues, and risky travel conditions were reported across several stations.

Activist Mukesh Makhija shared the disturbing footage online, writing, “AC local running with doors open from #Thane towards Kalyan due to overcrowding,” while tagging the Central Railway and Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The video shows passengers packed inside compartments, with many clinging onto the edges as the train sped through the tracks.

Public reactions were swift and sharp. A social media user from the account Roads of Mumbai reposted the clip, sarcastically remarking, “WOW! Amazing infrastructure and quality of life in this city!!!” — reflecting citizens’ growing frustration with Mumbai’s chronic rail congestion and safety lapses.

Tragedy followed the same evening when two people were killed and three others injured after being hit by a suburban train near Sandhurst Road station around 7 pm, shortly after services resumed. One of the deceased was identified as 19-year-old Helly Mohmaya, while the second victim’s identity remains unconfirmed.

A JJ Hospital official confirmed that two victims were brought dead, while three others sustained injuries. The Government Railway Police (GRP) appealed to citizens to avoid walking on tracks, stating, “Had the train not been delayed due to the strike, this tragedy might not have happened.”
