BMC To Acquire 346 Hectares For Coastal Road North, Madh–Versova Bridge, And Major Links

November 08, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will acquire around 346 hectares of land for major infrastructure projects across Mumbai’s western suburbs, including the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) North, the Madh–Versova Bridge, and other vital connectivity links. The land will be used for road alignments, interchanges, access roads, workspaces, and development plan roads. To expedite the process, the civic body has invited tenders to appoint a consultant responsible for obtaining statutory clearances and facilitating land acquisition.

Following the completion of the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road—from the Princess Street flyover at Marine Drive to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link—the BMC has now begun work on the Rs 16,621 crore MCRP-North, a 20 km stretch between Versova and Dahisar.

Additionally, a 5.6 km, 45-metre-wide elevated corridor connecting Dahisar to Bhayandar, costing Rs 3,304 crore, is expected to be completed by December 2028. The project will cut travel time from the current 90–120 minutes to just 15–20 minutes, while reducing carbon emissions by 55%.

The Rs 3,990 crore Madh–Versova Bridge—a 2.06 km cable-stayed link connecting Versova Koliwada and Madh Jetty—is targeted for completion within three years. Another bridge linking Andheri (Lagoon Road) and Malad (Infinity Mall) will cost Rs 2,200 crore and is slated for completion by 2028. The proposed Marve–Manori bridge will reduce the travel distance to Gorai–Manori–Uttan from 29 km to 1.5 km.

“Several infrastructure projects have been planned in the western suburbs to bridge missing links and ease traffic congestion. However, land acquisition and clearances remain the major hurdles. We need nearly 200 hectares of land for the MCRP–North project alone,” said a senior civic official. The consultant tender is valued at Rs 5.24 crore, with submissions due by November 17.
