Redevelopment Of Bhagwati Hospital Nears Completion, Promises Major Healthcare Upgrade For Mumbai North: Piyush Goyal

November 12, 2025: Union Minister and Mumbai North MP Piyush Goyal announced that the long-awaited redevelopment of the BMC-run Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali is nearing completion, marking a major step forward in strengthening healthcare infrastructure for citizens in the region. Guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to expand affordable and modern healthcare access, Goyal said the project will significantly improve the quality and reach of public health services in Mumbai North.

Rs 500-Crore Modern Healthcare Facility
The Rs 500-crore redevelopment of Bhagwati Hospital has gained fresh momentum following Goyal’s intervention. The upgraded facility will feature state-of-the-art medical infrastructure, including CT scan, MRI, sonography, dialysis, blood bank, and cath lab units, enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis. “Modern operating theatres equipped for orthopaedic, ophthalmic, and general surgeries will be integrated with precision instruments and upgraded patient-monitoring systems,” Goyal said. He added that a dedicated ICU block will provide 24×7 advanced critical care through modular ICUs and ventilator-equipped wards.

Two-Phase Redevelopment Plan
The project will be completed in two phases, with existing services being shifted to the new building first. In the second phase, the obstetrics, gynaecology, and paediatrics departments will begin operations within the next four months, transforming Bhagwati into a comprehensive multi-specialty hospital.

Upgradation of Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali
Goyal also announced parallel modernization efforts at BMC’s Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali. The hospital will be equipped with advanced operating theatres, ophthalmic and ENT microscopes, computerized radiography, and neonatal ventilators. “For neonatal and emergency care, the hospital will be fitted with state-of-the-art anaesthesia workstations, ensuring high-quality critical and surgical support,” he added.

Together, these initiatives mark a major push toward modernizing Mumbai North’s public healthcare ecosystem.
