November 12, 2025: The Ulwe Coastal Road — a key infrastructure link between the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu) and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) — has achieved about 60 per cent completion, according to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The six-lane, seven-kilometre corridor is emerging as a vital connector within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), promising smoother access and reduced congestion across Navi Mumbai.
The project comprises a 5.8-kilometre coastal stretch and a 0.9-kilometre airport link road, designed to provide a direct, high-speed route between the Atal Setu and NMIA. CIDCO’s Vice-Chairman and Managing Director said the corridor will help decongest key arterial routes, including Palm Beach Road, Amra Marg, and National Highway 348. It will also strengthen connectivity to major economic hubs such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Navi Mumbai Special Economic Zone (NMSEZ).
For commuters, the Ulwe Coastal Road will drastically cut travel time between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, improving convenience for daily travelers and logistics efficiency for businesses relying on port and airport access.
Technically advanced construction methods — including prefabricated vertical drains, stone column reinforcements, and rock fill sourced from the airport site — are being deployed to ensure durability and structural stability.
The project also incorporates sustainability and safety features such as energy-efficient LED lighting, smart traffic management systems, and anti-crash barriers, aligning with modern urban transport standards.
Once complete, the Ulwe Coastal Road is expected to redefine regional mobility, stimulate economic activity, and reinforce Navi Mumbai’s position as a key urban growth hub within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
