November 26, 2025: Mumbai Metro has rolled out a pilot initiative to introduce app-operated smart lockers at select stations, offering commuters a secure and hassle-free storage solution during their journeys. Developed in collaboration with AutoPe, the system enables passengers to book, access, and manage lockers entirely through a mobile app, eliminating the need for on-ground staff support.
The trial has commenced at Ghatkopar and Andheri stations, two of the network’s busiest interchanges. Depending on commuter feedback and usage patterns, the Metro authority plans to consider expanding the facility to additional stations across the city. Each locker is fitted with digital authentication features, real-time tamper alerts, and time-restricted access windows to enhance safety and ensure regulated usage.
Metro officials said the introduction of smart lockers is part of a broader effort to improve the overall commuter experience, especially for travellers who need short-term storage for personal belongings, work equipment, or parcels during transit. They added that the initiative reflects Mumbai Metro’s continued focus on deploying technology-driven passenger amenities across its corridors.
As Mumbai’s commuter base grows and travel patterns evolve, the smart locker system is expected to complement the metro’s digital ecosystem and strengthen last-mile convenience for daily riders.
