SRA to acquire slum plots reserved for amenities

The Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA) will henceforth acquire private slum-encumbered plots that have been reserved for a public amenity under the Development Control and Promotion Regulations 2034 (DCPR-2034).Three years ago, the BMC purchased a slum-encumbered plot in Dahisar for Rs 349 crore when it was valued at Rs 54 crore because of the encroachments

A similar story was to be played out in the case of two other plots where the BMC had initiated acquisition under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (LARR-2013). But the BMC which acquires plots through the collector, in November 2022 informed the latter to stop the acquisition as these plots were deemed slums
