After much back and forth for close to two decades, the plan to construct a vehicular bridge connecting Lokhandwala and Yari Road in Andheri is on track again. Earlier this week, the BMCfloated a Rs 42 crore tender for construction of a vehicular bridge at Yari Road junction and Lokhandwala back road in Andheri. This bridge is expected to cut travel time from 35 minutes to five.
The pre-bid meeting for the same is proposed to take place on November 28. Locals said this plan for the bridge has been in the making for two decades but its execution was hindered by long-standing legal disputes. Dhaval Shah of the Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens’ Association (LOCA) said, “This bridge will reduce commute time for Yari Road and Versova residents for north-bound travel and provide an alternative road once the area becomes busy when the Versova-Bandra sea link opens up.” The project tenure is now 18 months.
