Nariman Point-Virar in 35 Minutes with ₹54,000 Cr Coastal Road Project

Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, recently revealed plans to expand the ongoing Coastal Road project from Mumbai’s Nariman Point to Virar in the Palghar district on Tuesday.

When this coastal road project is finished, it will only take 35 to 40 minutes to get from Nariman Point to Virar. Going forward, Fadnavis stated that the Japanese government will provide funding for the Coastal Road extension. An enormous Rs 54,000 crore would be invested in this project.

According to Fadnavis, the bid for the Versova to Madh segment of the Coastal Road has been released. adding that the project’s Madh to Uttan link will soon begin construction.

The Coastal Road project, which is now under development in the Mumbai Metropolitan area, will be a 29.2-kilometer, eight-lane motorway. Additionally, this e-way will run along Mumbai’s western shore. It will link to Kandivali in the north and the Marine Lines in the south of the city.

Its first phase connects the Bandra–Worli Sea Link to the Princess Street overpass, spanning more than 10.58 km. On March 11, 2024, this section had already officially opened. The Coastal Road extension will undoubtedly provide good connectivity with the third airport announced in the Mumbai Metropolitan area, as we already know it will extend to Virar in the Palghar district.

Earlier, at a public rally in Dhule during the Maharashtra election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared plans to construct a new airport. PM Modi stated that the BJP-led Maharashtra alliance will begin construction on the airport that is slated to be built next to the Vadhavan Port project in Palghar.
