The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has deployed 482 geo-tagged dewatering pumps in low-lying areas of Mumbai as part of their heightened pre-monsoon preparations. By preventing waterlogging throughout the monsoon season, this calculated action ensures a prompt reaction to any possible flooding. These pumps’ geotagging makes it easier to track and hold people accountable in real time, which improves the effectiveness of the city’s crisis management initiatives.
The BMC has instructed several departments to put in place thorough crisis management procedures in addition to deploying dewatering pumps. Among these is clearing silt and debris from drainage systems to avoid obstructions that can make floods worse. Additionally, the company started special cleanliness campaigns along important highways, and they were successful in removing 25 tonnes of debris from the Eastern and Western Express Highways.
These proactive steps underscore the BMC’s commitment to safeguarding Mumbai’s residents and infrastructure from the challenges posed by the impending monsoon season.
