The Forest Department has given the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) 10,000 square meters of land to develop the Gavalidev area in Ghansoli into a natural tourist attraction, which is a major step in increasing Navi Mumbai’s tourism attractiveness. The project intends to maintain the site’s natural beauty while offering tourists first-rate facilities.
Following a recent on-site assessment of the continuing development work, NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde issued important orders to guarantee the site’s sustainable and aesthetically pleasing growth. Executive Engineer Yashwant Kapse, City Engineer Shirish Aradwad, and members of the contractor and architecture teams accompanied the Commissioner. Gavalidev is a historically and culturally significant place in the MIDC region of Ghansoli, situated in the Sahyadri hill ranges.
It draws a lot of nature enthusiasts from Mumbai and Navi Mumbai during the monsoon season. With a budget of Rs. 5 crore approved by the District Planning Committee, NMMC has started work to turn the area into a fully-fledged natural tourism destination in recognition of its appeal.
Paved walkways, gazebos, portable restrooms, stone structures, gabion walls, rainwater drainage systems, directional signage, electrification, and water pipelines are all part of the project. As of right now, 25% of the gabion wall construction is finished, according to Dr. Shinde. In order to preserve the biological integrity of the area, he recommended using locally accessible natural stone rather than artificial materials after reviewing the site’s comprehensive plan lately.
At some locations along the tourist route, arrangements for clean restrooms and drinking water were also prioritised.
The commissioner emphasised that Gavalidev should be built with natural materials so that residents may take in the peace and quiet of the environment while having access to all the amenities they need for a comfortable outdoor experience.
