NMMC Pushes For Sustainable Growth With Green Building Workshop

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) held a one-day workshop called Green City Green Building at its offices in CBD Belapur with the goal of encouraging sustainable urban development. The event’s main goals were to promote eco-friendly infrastructure throughout the city and advance the green construction concept.

The event, which was organised in partnership with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), included in-depth sessions where participants examined doable tactics for implementing green construction and reducing environmental effect. The IGBC team also provided further details about their ranking system, which encourages sustainable land use, infrastructure, urban transportation, and citizen welfare practices. Sessions on various facets of green buildings were led by IGBC experts Vikram Singha, Raja Reddy, Asfia Taimur, and Gargi Das.

Deputy Commissioner Sharad Pawar spoke at the event and stressed the importance of incorporating environmental concerns into all development projects, referring to it as a societal duty.

In order to raise students’ awareness of environmental issues, Somnath Kekan, the joint director of urban planning, suggested that all next NMMC school buildings be built in accordance with green construction standards.

Additional city engineer Shirish Aardwad emphasised Navi Mumbai’s pioneering role in the green movement, pointing out that the NMMC headquarters was formerly the biggest green-rated structure in India. In all new developments, he asked developers to give eco-friendly measures top priority.

India has become a global pioneer in sustainable urban development through IGBC, according to architect Hiten Sethi, who also stated that Navi Mumbai has the ability to establish new standards in this area.
