Mumbai environmental activist Zoru Bhathena has released footage capturing the rapid felling of a large, mature tree at a construction site in Churchgate. The video, titled ‘Gone in 20 Seconds’, shows a lumberjack swiftly cutting down the tree on Dinshaw Vacha Road, a site earmarked for development to accommodate state government officials.
Within just twenty seconds, the towering tree is brought down by a chainsaw, highlighting the speed at which Mumbai’s green spaces are being lost to urban development. The incident has sparked concern among environmentalists and residents who fear the continued erosion of the city’s greenery in the face of ongoing construction projects.
