Dharavi is poised to emerge as Mumbai’s most significant metro interchange, with the intersection of metro line 3 (Colaba–BKC–SEEPZ) and the proposed extension of metro line 11 (Wadala–CSMT). Urban development authorities plan to transform this area into a multi-level, multimodal transit hub, connecting eastern and western corridors of the city and easing pressure on existing transport routes.
The area will host two key Metro stations—one under Metro Line 3, currently under construction, and another as part of Metro Line 11’s proposed development. Designed as an integrated interchange, the facility will enable commuters to switch lines seamlessly, providing direct underground connectivity between eastern suburbs like Sion and Wadala and major commercial districts such as BKC and Churchgate.
The Dharavi Central Metro Station is expected to serve as a comprehensive mobility node, incorporating suburban rail access, feeder bus services, dedicated pedestrian infrastructure, and cycling paths. Feeder routes are also being mapped to nearby localities, including Mahim, Antop Hill, and Chunabhatti, improving last-mile connectivity.
The design emphasises inclusive and sustainable infrastructure. Accessibility features like ramps, elevators, tactile flooring, and user-friendly signage for differently abled and elderly passengers are part of the plan. The project will also comply with green building norms, integrating energy-efficient systems and water-saving technologies.
The Metro infrastructure is being closely coordinated with the ongoing Dharavi Redevelopment Project. Authorities have assured that all transport developments will align with residential rehabilitation plans, ensuring no displacement and equitable access for all residents.
Located near the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train terminal and key railway networks, Dharavi’s strategic position strengthens its case for transit-orientated development. Once operational, this metro hub is expected to significantly reduce reliance on private vehicles and reshape commuting across Mumbai.
