BMC Launches Special Cleanliness Campaign Across Mumbai Until June 15

As part of its ongoing preparations for the monsoon season, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Solid Waste Management (SWM) Department has announced a special cleanliness drive across Mumbai and its suburbs, commencing this Friday and continuing until 15 June. The initiative aims to enhance waste collection efforts, focusing on debris, pavement blocks, construction rubble, and other materials discarded at various project sites.

The civic body emphasised that special attention will be paid to areas surrounding water bodies and drainage systems to prevent blockages during the heavy monsoon rains. This measure is intended to reduce the risk of flooding caused by clogged drains, which has historically disrupted the city during the monsoon period.

The drive will include daily sweeping operations to be completed before 10 am each day, with additional sweeps scheduled as necessary to maintain cleanliness throughout the day. This rigorous schedule is designed to ensure that waste and debris do not accumulate and obstruct water flow during the critical rainy season.

The campaign will be conducted under the direct supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner (City), Dr Ashwini Joshi, and Deputy Commissioner (Solid Waste Management), Kiran Dighavkar, following directives from BMC Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani. These officials are tasked with overseeing the drive and implementing special measures to uphold the city’s sanitation standards during the monsoon.

This cleanliness initiative reflects BMC’s commitment to proactive urban management and safeguarding public health by minimising the risk of waterlogging and related hazards. Residents are encouraged to cooperate by disposing of waste responsibly to support the city’s efforts in maintaining a clean and safe environment during the challenging monsoon season.
