New Mumbai Flyover Opens, Slashing Vikhroli To EEH Commute By 30 Minutes

June 16, 2025: In a welcome development for Mumbai’s motorists, a newly constructed road overbridge in Vikhroli was opened to the public on Saturday. The flyover connects Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg on the western side of Vikhroli station to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) on the eastern side, providing a vital link between both parts of the suburb.

According to a press release issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the bridge was made operational without a formal inauguration, in view of the ongoing monsoon and to avoid causing further inconvenience to commuters. The BMC confirmed that the flyover was completed within its scheduled deadline of  May 31st. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had instructed authorities to open the structure to the public without delay. With the bridge now in use, commuters can expect to save up to 30 minutes of travel time.

Measuring 615 metres in length and 12 metres in width, the bridge was completed in three phases and required the installation of 18 girder spans and 19 piers — 12 on the eastern side and seven on the west. A traffic holding bay has been constructed on the western approach to improve flow and commuter convenience. The project was executed by the BMC’s Roads and Traffic Department.

Sharing a video of the flyover on social media, CM Fadnavis noted that he had initiated the project in 2018 during his earlier tenure as Chief Minister. The total cost stood at Rs 104.77 crore. Given the monsoon traffic congestion typically experienced on LBS Marg, the government directed that the bridge be opened to vehicles from 4 PM on  June 14 2025, without waiting for an official ceremony.
