Jogeshwari Locals Demand Urgent Reinstallation Of Speed Breakers Near Millat School

June 23, 2025: Residents and school authorities in Jogeshwari West are urging the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to reinstall speed breakers outside Millat School on SV Road to ensure student safety. Despite multiple appeals, the civic body has yet to take concrete action, drawing concern from the local community.

Millat School, situated on the busy SV Road, caters to around 4,000 students. In February this year, school management formally requested the BMC’s K-West ward office to construct speed breakers outside its main gate, highlighting the dangers posed by fast-moving vehicles, particularly during peak traffic hours.

“Children are afraid to cross the road. Vehicles pass at high speed right outside the school gate. It’s a serious safety hazard,” a school representative said, stressing the urgency of the matter.

In addition to the school, the same premises house the Millat Nursing Home, which sees a steady stream of patients daily. According to locals, the problem intensified after the road underwent cement concretisation earlier this year. While the resurfacing was completed in January, the previously existing speed breakers were not reinstalled.

Mansoor Darvesh, a local resident, voiced his frustration. “I’ve approached the BMC ward office three times. They keep redirecting me to different departments. If an accident occurs, the civic body will be to blame,” he said. He also pointed out that two-wheeler riders often speed along the stretch, putting schoolchildren and pedestrians at constant risk.

A senior BMC official confirmed that the roads department has been informed and promised that the speed breakers will be reinstalled shortly.

As the area continues to witness high traffic volumes, residents hope the BMC will act swiftly to restore this essential road safety measure before any unfortunate incident occurs.
