July 5, 2025: A major safety scare unfolded late Friday night in Nalasopara East after a residential building tilted, prompting the evacuation of around 70 residents. The incident took place at Sairaj Apartment, a ground-plus-four-storey structure located in the Alkapuri area.
Officials from the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) and the fire brigade responded swiftly to the emergency. All residents were safely evacuated and relocated to a nearby hall as a precautionary measure.
Preliminary observations suggest that the tilt may have resulted from renovation work being carried out in a shop on the ground floor. However, VVCMC officials have not yet confirmed this as the definitive cause.
To ensure the safety of residents and assess the structural integrity of the building, a team of structural engineers has been scheduled to conduct a detailed inspection. Their findings will determine whether the building is safe for reoccupation or if further action, including repairs or demolition, is required.
