July 12, 2025: Heavy rainfall in catchment areas has significantly boosted water levels in the seven lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai. According to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday, July 12, the combined water stock in these reservoirs now stands at 74.47% of total capacity.
The cumulative storage across all seven lakes is currently 10,77,907 million litres. These lakes—Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vihar, and Tulsi—serve as the primary sources of daily drinking water for the city.
As per the latest BMC figures, Modak Sagar is already full at 100%, while Middle Vaitarna holds 92.75%, and Tansa is at 79.84%. Upper Vaitarna has reached 74.89% of its capacity. Bhatsa, the largest reservoir, is at 65.01%, whereas Vihar and Tulsi stand at 48.56% and 50.35%, respectively.
The rising lake levels have eased concerns about water supply for the city, which relies heavily on monsoon rains to replenish its reservoirs. Regular monitoring by BMC continues to track inflow and manage distribution across Mumbai.
