July 12, 2025: In a significant boost to urban mobility and traffic decongestion, the Maharashtra government has inaugurated two key infrastructure projects in Thane — Phase 1 of the Kasarvadavli Flyover and the ongoing Metro Line 4 corridor.
The newly opened Kasarvadavli Flyover, which spans approximately 800 metres, is now operational and offering commuters much-needed relief along the Thane–Gaimukh route. The flyover has been constructed adjacent to the under-construction Metro Line 4, providing smoother traffic movement and reducing the bottlenecks that previously plagued the Ghodbunder junction.
The inauguration was carried out by Maharashtra’s Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, who referred to the project as “a vital step in improving connectivity between Thane and the city’s outer suburbs.” Officials stated that the flyover is already helping to streamline vehicular movement, saving valuable commuting time for daily travellers.
Previously, the Ghodbunder junction was a major congestion point, with vehicles frequently caught in extended delays. With the flyover now bypassing this junction, the flow of traffic has significantly improved. The structure is expected to benefit thousands of residents and daily commuters travelling between Thane and Gaimukh, particularly during peak hours.
Meanwhile, work on Metro Line 4 — which runs from Wadala to Kasarvadavli — is progressing steadily. Once completed, the metro line is expected to transform public transport access in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs and further integrate Thane into the city’s growing metro network.
The twin developments signal a positive shift in Thane’s infrastructure landscape, combining road and metro connectivity to meet the demands of a rapidly urbanising population. Authorities are hopeful that these efforts will contribute towards long-term traffic management and sustainable urban transit in the region.
