July 15, 2025: Mumbai’s connectivity has received a significant boost following the full commissioning of the Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, which saw over 11.23 lakh vehicles plying the route in the month after its final stretch opened on 5 June. This marks a 32% rise in monthly vehicular movement compared to the January–May average, according to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
Between June 6 and July 6 alone, the expressway generated an impressive Rs 90 crore in toll revenue, a sharp increase reflective of the road’s growing popularity. Prior to the completion of the final 76-kilometre segment from Igatpuri to Amane, the monthly traffic averaged around 8.5 lakh vehicles. Now, with the full 701-kilometre corridor from Nagpur to Mumbai operational, the expressway has become the preferred route for both private and commercial vehicles, reducing travel time between the two cities to just eight hours.
Key toll points have reported high usage: Amane in Thane district recorded 1.97 lakh vehicles and collected Rs 19.2 crore, while Khutghar near Shahapur logged 27,612 vehicles, generating Rs 98 lakh in tolls.
Since its partial inauguration on 11 December 2022, the expressway has handled over 2.24 crore vehicles. With the entire route now open, average daily traffic has risen to approximately 37,000 vehicles. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 61,000 crore, the access-controlled expressway stands as a flagship infrastructure project, aimed at enhancing east-west connectivity across Maharashtra.
Authorities expect traffic to grow further in the coming months as supporting facilities and amenities are expanded. The Samruddhi Mahamarg is rapidly establishing itself as a crucial economic lifeline, streamlining logistics and reinforcing regional development across the state.
