June 22, 2025: Residents and commuters in Mumbai’s Andheri West continue to grapple with severe traffic congestion due to the prolonged partial closure of the Mogra Nallah main bridge on Achyutrao Patwardhan Marg. The bridge has remained shut on one side for nearly two years to accommodate construction related to Metro Line 6, significantly impacting daily travel in the area.
The situation is particularly challenging for those residing in Lokhandwala. With only a single lane open to traffic in both directions, vehicles are forced to navigate a narrow stretch, resulting in long queues and frustrating delays.
Locals have expressed growing dissatisfaction over the lack of visible progress. According to a report in The Times of India, Prashant Rane, a resident and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) member, recently filed a formal complaint with the BMC’s bridges department and Metro Line 6 authorities at the MMRDA. In his letter, he alleged that despite the prolonged closure, no actual construction or repair work has taken place at the site.
Rane further claimed that the closed section of the bridge is currently being used to store construction materials and that a massive 400–500-tonne iron span has remained stationed on the ageing bridge structure for nearly two years—raising fears of a collapse or major accident.
He also drew attention to the area beneath the bridge, which he said has become a hotspot for antisocial behaviour, including public drinking. His complaint urged authorities to either immediately restart construction or reopen the bridge if no work is planned, and to hold those responsible for delays accountable. While the BMC confirmed the bridge site had been handed over for Metro work, the MMRDA has yet to issue a response to the concerns.
