July 30, 2025: A minor crack has been detected on a flyover along the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) near the Nahur Road Over Bridge (ROB) junction in Mumbai, raising initial concern among regular commuters on the busy route. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has swiftly moved to reassure the public, clarifying that the crack is superficial and poses no risk to the structural integrity of the flyover.
Civic officials have confirmed that the crack is confined solely to the concrete railing of the bridge and does not compromise the safety or stability of the flyover itself. According to the BMC, vehicular movement on the GMLR flyover will continue as usual, with no restrictions or diversions required. Repair work on the damaged railing section is already in progress, with efforts underway to complete it at the earliest possible time to minimise inconvenience.
The GMLR serves as one of Mumbai’s key east-west arterial links, designed to ease congestion and reduce commute times across the city. Given the importance of the corridor, even minor defects tend to attract significant public attention. As a result, municipal authorities have acted promptly to assess the situation and maintain public confidence in the city’s infrastructure.
A BMC spokesperson reiterated that the flyover remains structurally sound and that routine inspections and maintenance works are part of their ongoing efforts to ensure safety and serviceability.
