Dharavi Redevelopment Survey To Conclude On August 12; Residents Can Still Apply Through Helpline

August 1, 2025: The Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) has announced that its ongoing door-to-door household survey will conclude on August 12. The survey, launched in March 2024, aims to determine the eligibility of residents for resettlement under the government-backed redevelopment scheme.

Officials clarified that while survey teams will stop house visits after the deadline, residents still have the opportunity to be enlisted. They may do so by calling the DRP helpline and presenting the required documents in person before the authorities. “We would assure that we keep receiving such submissions from these residents and enter them into the official record after checks,” a DRP official said.

The eligibility criteria are based on the government’s cut-off date of January 1, 2000. Those able to prove residence in Dharavi before this date are entitled to a free 350 sq ft apartment in the redeveloped township. Residents who settled between January 1, 2000, and January 1, 2011, will receive 300 sq ft homes outside Dharavi under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), either on rent or at a subsidised cost.

So far, more than one lakh tenements and plots have been surveyed, with the overall project expected to cover around 1.2 lakh households. The redeveloped housing units will be distributed across Dharavi and adjoining areas such as Kurla, Mulund, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, and Malad.

“The majority of Dharavi has already been surveyed. There remain only a few pockets like Kumbharwada and Compound 13, or private landowner areas, where the process is pending. If any of the residents of such areas call the helpline and produce proper documents, we will include them at once,” a DRP official added.

The Maharashtra cabinet has also approved policy support for commercial tenants, reserving 10 per cent of rehabilitation complex space for their resettlement. The DRP envisions transforming Dharavi into a modern township with housing, commercial spaces, and public infrastructure.
