CIDCO Charts 2054 Mobility Vision For Navi Mumbai And Airport Influence Area

August 4, 2025: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has announced it will prepare a Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Navi Mumbai and the adjoining Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA). Designed as a long-term transport framework extending to 2054 and beyond, the CMP will guide infrastructure development to create a sustainable, inclusive, and efficient transit system for one of India’s fastest-growing urban regions.

“With upcoming developments such as the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Corporate Park, Aerocity, Edu City, Logistic Park, and Medicity, alongside expanding residential and industrial hubs, traffic volumes will increase significantly,” said Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of CIDCO. The CMP will take a holistic approach, integrating public transport, private vehicles, walking, and cycling, with an emphasis on safety, sustainability, and seamless connectivity across Navi Mumbai and NAINA.

The plan comes amid major infrastructure additions, including the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbour Link), Metro Line 8 linking NMIA to Mumbai International Airport, the Panvel–Karjat suburban railway, the Belapur–NMIA Metro Line 1 extension, and growth corridors in Kharghar, Taloja, and Ulwe.

Navi Mumbai’s current transport network features 980 km of roads, including the Thane–Belapur Road, Sion–Panvel Highway, and Palm Beach Road; a 60-km suburban rail network; the Belapur–Pendhar Metro line; and extensive bus services.

CIDCO stated that the CMP will help identify gaps, set investment priorities, and phase projects according to regional mobility needs. The final plan will be shaped through consultations with stakeholders, transport experts, and urban planners, ensuring it aligns with the city’s evolving economic and demographic profile.
