August 4, 2025: Mumbai’s expanding metro network is set to receive a major boost with the anticipated launch of Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line) later this year. The fully elevated corridor will stretch from D.N. Nagar in Andheri (West) to Mandale in Mankhurd (East), covering a total length of approximately 23.643 kilometres. This new line is expected to significantly ease east-west commuting in the city, particularly for areas underserved by the suburban railway network.
The route will include 20 elevated stations, enhancing connectivity across multiple residential, commercial, and institutional zones. The stations on this line will be: ESIC Nagar, Prem Nagar, Indira Nagar, Nanavati Hospital, Khira Nagar, Saraswat Nagar, National College, Bandra Metro, Income Tax Office, ILFS, MTNL Metro, S.G. Barve Marg, Kurla East, Eastern Express Highway, Chembur, Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd, and finally, Mandale Metro.
The corridor’s strategic alignment will provide seamless access to key locations like Bandra, Kurla, Chembur, and Mankhurd, significantly reducing travel time and road congestion. It is particularly relevant for daily commuters who often face severe traffic bottlenecks on this stretch.
The total project cost has been estimated at around Rs 10,986 crore, which includes land acquisition, escalation costs, and interest. As of early to mid-2025, approximately 78% to 83% of the civil construction work has been completed, placing the project on track for a phased rollout.
Once operational, Metro Line 2B will complement other ongoing lines and act as a critical east-west connector, reducing the city’s reliance on road-based transport and contributing to a more efficient and sustainable urban mobility ecosystem.
