Tesla Launches First Charging Station In India, Expands EV Network In Mumbai

August 5, 2025: Global electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has officially inaugurated its first charging facility in India, signalling a major step forward in the company’s expansion into the Indian market. The new station is located at One BKC in Mumbai’s bustling Bandra-Kurla Complex and features four V4 Supercharger stalls offering direct current (DC) charging at speeds of up to 250 kW, alongside four destination chargers providing alternating current (AC) charging at 11 kW.

Charging rates have been set at Rs 24 per kWh for Superchargers and Rs 14 per kWh for destination chargers. The launch of the charging facility follows Tesla’s formal entry into India on July 15, marked by the introduction of its popular Model Y and the opening of its first Experience Centre in Mumbai. Once the world’s best-selling vehicle, the Model Y is being imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU) from Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory. Prices start at Rs 59.89 lakh for the rear-wheel drive variant, with the long-range rear-wheel drive model priced from Rs 67.89 lakh. Deliveries are expected to commence in the third and fourth quarters of 2025 respectively.

Tesla has also revealed plans to open three additional charging stations across the Mumbai metropolitan area—specifically in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai—by the end of the September quarter. These developments form part of the company’s broader effort to establish a robust electric vehicle infrastructure in India.

By investing in high-speed charging points and strategic urban locations, Tesla aims to address one of the key challenges for electric mobility in India—range anxiety—while reinforcing its long-term commitment to the country’s growing EV market. The expansion is expected to boost consumer confidence and adoption of electric vehicles across major Indian cities.
