Chief Minister To Unveil Multiple Projects Today; Metro-3 Launch Expected By August End

August 12, 2025:  On the eve of Independence Day and with local body elections imminent, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is set to preside over a series of infrastructure inaugurations across Mumbai. The events will showcase developments ranging from flyovers and bridges to a motormen training centre and redeveloped housing. However, the much-anticipated third phase of Metro-3, connecting Worli to Cuffe Parade, will not feature in this round, with officials now targeting a launch towards the end of August.

The 9.1-kilometre stretch, part of the Aqua Line, was originally slated to open on 15 August. Yet, according to a Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) official, ongoing work on two stations in the congested Kalbadevi area is delaying completion. “We are aiming for an inauguration by the end of August,” the official confirmed.

On Tuesday, Fadnavis will attend three separate functions organised by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). These include the opening of a 2.75-kilometre flyover linking Mumbai University to Vile Parle, designed to alleviate the notorious Santacruz traffic bottleneck; a new bridge connecting Kalanagar and Dharavi to enhance east-west connectivity; and a Metro motormen training centre at Mandale, which will eliminate the need for operators to travel to Hyderabad and other cities for training.

Additionally, the Chief Minister will inaugurate MMRDA staff quarters at Malvani.

Another key highlight will be the symbolic handing over of keys to 556 tenants from the redeveloped BDD chawls in Worli, marking the completion of the project’s first phase. This will be followed by the opening of the International Experience Centre at the Dabbawalla Bhavan in Bandra West.
