August 12, 2025: The MSRTC bus depot at Nancy Colony in Borivli is in poor condition this monsoon, with massive potholes creating difficulties for both passengers and drivers. Navigating buses through the water-filled craters has become a challenge, affecting daily operations.
Sources within MSRTC acknowledged the depot’s deteriorating state and confirmed the need for an overhaul. In the past, the corporation floated tenders for its redevelopment. Plans are reportedly underway to construct a 16-storey building, with the ground plus three floors reserved for MSRTC offices. From the fourth to the sixteenth floors, developers will have the right to commercial use.
The redevelopment, proposed under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model for 30 years, will allocate the ground floor and most of the plot for bus parking and maintenance facilities.
Passengers, however, are concerned about the immediate state of the depot. “What about the present situation? The depot is in dilapidated condition, and it is going over the huge potholes filled with water to access the bus service,” one commuter said.
Sources added that attempts were made to repair the facility over the past couple of years, but it remains unclear why the work was never completed.
