August 12, 2025: The construction of Mumbai’s Kalyan–Taloja Metro line is entering a crucial new stage along Kalyan–Shil Road. Having completed the support pillars in the central median, contractors are now preparing to install heavy girders atop them.
To carry out this task safely and efficiently, the city’s Transport Department has announced night-time traffic diversions for a 20-day period, from 11 August to 31 August. According to Loksatta, restrictions will be in effect between 12:45 a.m. and 5:00 a.m., when traffic volumes are lowest. The work is being undertaken by Gawar Construction Company under the supervision of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
The affected stretches include Patripool to Runwal Chowk, Manpada Chowk to Sonarpada Chowk, and Suyog Regency Anantham to Venkatesh Petrol Pump. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Transport) Pankaj Shirsat confirmed that the girder installation will be carried out in two phases to minimise disruption.
Phase 1 (11–20 August) will focus on Manpada Chowk to Sonarpada Chowk. Vehicles travelling towards Kalyan will be diverted via Sewa Road to Sonarpada Chowk before rejoining Kalyan–Shil Road.
Phase 2 (21–31 August) will cover Suyog Regency Anantham to Venkatesh Petrol Pump. Traffic from Kalyan or Dombivli will be rerouted via pillar number 110, turning left at pillar number 128 in front of Venkatesh Petrol Pump. Vehicles approaching Kalyan via Sheel–Manpada Road will face a closure at Dombivli Nagari Sahakari Bank Chowk, with diversions in place via the service road to pillar number 144.
Emergency and essential service vehicles will be permitted during restricted hours. Authorities have urged motorists to follow diversion routes and cooperate, stressing that the measures are vital to ensure the Metro works are completed on schedule and without safety incidents.
