August 15, 2025: Guard ceremony where the 18th president was appointed on board, unveiled an ambitious roadmap to position Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as a global hub for infrastructure, education, and economic growth, with projects designed to transform connectivity, urban development, and investment potential.
“Infrastructure is the backbone of this transformation. The Coastal Road, which will be operational 24×7, has already brought immense benefits, just like the Sea Link did, reducing traffic by 60%. We are extending the Sea Link from Bandra to Dahisar, and then up to Virar. With the Atal Setu, the new Navi Mumbai Airport, and north-south connectivity projects, we are preparing for exponential growth in the MMR region,” Fadnavis said.
He also issued a direct call to the real estate sector to step up and be an active partner in this transformation. “We are ready to bring land, facilitate permissions, and provide infrastructure—you, the industry, must build. This is the moment for the real estate fraternity to step up and be part of a city that will become a growth engine for decades to come.
Fadnavis added, “On the northern front, we are developing ‘Fourth Mumbai,’ connected by the bullet train that will reach BKC in just 20 minutes. This is a massive urban opportunity. Alongside, we are creating ‘EduCity’ in Navi Mumbai—300 acres dedicated to housing 12 of the world’s top universities. With 100,000 residential students, this will generate unmatched vibrancy and economic activity, putting Mumbai on the global education map.”
“Our vision is to make Maharashtra a USD 1 trillion economy, but the MMR region alone has the potential to touch USD 1.5 trillion. Affordable housing, high-speed connectivity, and world-class urban planning will get us there. With new technology, fresh thinking, and collaborative effort, we can build a bigger, better Mumbai. Let us resolve today to make it happen,” he said.
With transformative infrastructure projects, ambitious economic targets, and a focus on innovation, Mumbai and the MMR are poised to enter a new era of growth. The combined momentum of government vision, industry participation, and global-standard planning could redefine the city’s skyline, connectivity, and competitiveness—shaping a future where Mumbai stands as one of the world’s most dynamic urban regions.
