Five Projects Inaugurated As Mumbai Marks Infrastructure Push Ahead Of Independence Day

August 16, 2025: Mumbai received a significant upgrade to its transport and public infrastructure on Thursday as the Maharashtra government inaugurated five major projects across the city. These include a landmark curved cable-stayed bridge on the Santacruz–Chembur Link Road (SCLR), a new arm of the Kalanagar Flyover, and a scenic promenade along the Mumbai Coastal Road.

The most notable development is the sharp-curve cable-stayed bridge, hailed as South Asia’s first of its kind. The bridge passes over the Western Express Highway and forms the final extension of the SCLR, a project that commenced in 2016. The new link allows motorists from the eastern suburbs and the Bandra-Kurla Complex to bypass the heavily congested Kalina junction, directly joining the highway after the Vakola Flyover.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the bridge as a “proud achievement” that will ease travel between the city’s eastern and western corridors. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde added that commuters could now drive from Chembur to Dahisar without encountering a single traffic signal.

Another key project is the newly opened 340-metre arm of the Kalanagar Flyover, costing ₹20 crore. It will provide smoother movement for vehicles from Dharavi’s T Junction towards South Mumbai and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Meanwhile, the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road is set to operate round the clock from Saturday, replacing the earlier 7 am to midnight schedule.

Alongside, the government inaugurated a 5.25 km stretch of the new promenade, extending from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and from Baroda Palace to Worli, complete with four pedestrian underpasses. Further enhancing connectivity, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation opened a 100-metre foot overbridge linking CSMIA–T2 Metro Station directly to Terminal 2 of the international airport, enabling passengers to avoid road traffic and save time.
