August 16, 2025: Air passengers in Mumbai can now enjoy smoother access to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal 2, following the inauguration of a new foot overbridge (FOB) by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The 100-metre-long structure provides a direct link between the CSMIA–T2 Metro Station and the airport terminal, allowing travellers to avoid congested road traffic.
The bridge connects directly from Lift Entry/Exit A1 at the ground level of the station to the terminal building, enabling commuters to save considerable travel time. Officials from the MMRDA stated that the new facility has been designed to make airport transfers quicker and more convenient, particularly during peak hours when road journeys can be significantly delayed.
The development forms part of the wider integration of Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, with major transport hubs across the city. The aim is to provide seamless connectivity for metro passengers, strengthening public transport links while reducing dependence on private vehicles and taxis for airport travel.
Once fully operational, the underground Metro Line 3 will connect Cuffe Parade in South Mumbai with Aarey in the north, serving thousands of daily commuters across key business and residential districts. At present, the metro corridor is partially open, running between Aarey JVLR and Worli.
The launch of this FOB marks another step in transforming Mumbai’s public transport landscape. With metro services gradually expanding and facilities such as this bridge improving accessibility, authorities believe that more residents and air travellers will opt for efficient, eco-friendly transit options over road-based travel.
