Closure Of Bandra’s Santa Maria Sandwich House This Month Comes With Promise Of Renewal

August 20, 2025:

On August 24, 2025, Santa Maria, the modest yet much-loved café at the gateway to Ranwar Village in Bandra, will close its doors after more than ten years of serving locals and food lovers across Mumbai. Known as “Your Local Sandwich House,” the café built a reputation not just for its inventive menu but also for its warmth, quirky interiors, and sense of belonging.

From August 21 to 24, Santa Maria will welcome patrons daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., giving regulars one last chance to savour their favourite sandwiches, fries, and drinks before the shutters come down.

Inside, the café offered a nostalgic vibe with wooden tables, cassettes on shelves, a buzzing old television, and handwoven Rotação chairs crafted by Wasim Chacha, a Bandra artisan whose work added to its legacy.

Signature items like Peggy’s Piggy (pulled pork and arugula in focaccia), the vegetarian favourite Eggplant Melt, and the playful Falling in Love Ft. Siddharth croissant sandwich kept foodies coming back. Alongside, Gunpowder fries, raw mango soda, watermelon-feta salad, and sturdy house-baked breads gave the menu its cult following.

The café’s farewell note emphasised that this is not a goodbye, but a pause — hinting at a soulful comeback in the future. For Bandra’s ever-changing culinary landscape, Santa Maria’s closure marks the end of an era, but its promised return is already sparking hope among loyal fans.
