August 21, 2025: In a significant improvement for traveller convenience, a new foot overbridge linking Mumbai Metro Line 3 with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s (CSMIA) Terminal 2 has officially opened. The bridge allows passengers to move seamlessly between the metro and the terminal, bypassing congested traffic and cutting down transfer time to just a few minutes.
Spanning approximately 100 metres, the structure connects the CSMIA–Terminal 2 Metro Station on the Aqua Line directly to Lift Entry/Exit A1 of the terminal. Previously, passengers had to walk around 450 metres to reach the terminal from the station. With the new overbridge in place, the distance has been reduced to just 118 metres, significantly simplifying access for airport commuters.
The bridge has been designed with wide walkways to accommodate passengers carrying large luggage and to ensure they are shielded from busy traffic areas. Commenting on the development via X, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said: “Good news for flyers! No more rushing through traffic before your flight! The newly built 100-metre foot overbridge connects directly to Terminal 2, making the journey fast, easy and convenient.”
Spanning 1,900 acres, CSMIA is India’s second busiest airport and holds the distinction of being the world’s busiest single-runway facility. It offers direct flights to 54 international and 67 domestic destinations, establishing itself as one of the nation’s most vital global gateways.
The launch of this overbridge is expected to further enhance the airport experience for daily commuters and international travellers alike, reflecting Mumbai’s growing focus on infrastructure improvements that prioritise efficiency, safety and passenger comfort.
