August 26, 2025: The deteriorating condition of Bhiwandi’s roads, coupled with reckless driving and chaotic traffic, continues to pose serious risks to commuters, with a series of accidents claiming multiple lives in recent weeks.
On Saturday evening, a 70-year-old pedestrian, Janabai Harishchand Kesharwani, a resident of Rawji Nagar on Kalyan Road, was fatally struck by a speeding car near Ansari Hotel. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Vikas Soni, allegedly hit her from behind while she was on her way to buy milk. Despite being rushed to hospital by passers-by, she was declared dead on arrival.
Just days earlier, on August 21, a 39-year-old biker, Sandeep Pawar from Kalyan, was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident near Kon Creek on the Bhiwandi–Kalyan Road. Pawar, who works at a private company in Bhiwandi, was hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle, causing him to fall under the wheels of a KDMC bus. The bus driver, Rajendra Shelke, halted immediately, and the victim was taken to hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment for multiple fractures and internal injuries. Police have registered an FIR against the unknown driver.
The spate of accidents follows several pothole-related fatalities in Bhiwandi. On July 30, a 17-year-old boy died after his motorcycle slipped on a pothole, prompting villagers to block the Bhiwandi–Wada Road in protest. More recently, on August 23, Dr Naseem Ansari, aged 58, lost his life after his two-wheeler skidded on an uneven, pothole-ridden stretch. He was crushed under a truck.
Tragedy struck again on Thursday night when a 43-year-old delivery executive, Vishwanath Thoke of Dombivli, was killed after being hit by a speeding car near Mankoli Bridge while en route to deliver food items.
The recurring accidents have once again highlighted Bhiwandi’s dangerous road conditions and the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
