September 2, 2025: In a significant step to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), the Maharashtra government has approved the installation of eight charging stations along the Pune–Mumbai Expressway. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will shortly commence site surveys to identify suitable locations for the facilities.
According to a statement issued by the MSRDC, each charging station will be equipped to serve multiple vehicles at once, thereby easing concerns of long waiting times for motorists. Rajesh Patil, Joint Managing Director of MSRDC, Mumbai, said the initiative was timely, given the rising number of EVs plying the busy Pune–Mumbai corridor. “The growing demand makes it essential to create reliable charging infrastructure,” he noted.
The move is expected to bolster confidence among EV owners while supporting the state’s wider goal of reducing vehicular emissions and encouraging sustainable transport solutions.
