September 5, 2025: In a significant development for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP), residents of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Nagar have received encouraging news. The DRP has issued its second draft Annexure-II list, determining the eligibility of households for redevelopment benefits. Out of 507 residential structures assessed, 332 have been declared eligible, meaning around 65% of SVP Nagar’s residents now stand to benefit from the project.
The second draft originally listed 546 structures, including 39 categorised as public amenities. Once these were excluded, the final count of residential units came to 507. According to the latest list, 201 families will be offered in-situ rehabilitation within Dharavi, while 131 families will be relocated to housing outside the locality.
Only 35 households have so far been deemed ineligible, primarily due to incomplete documentation. However, the DRP has clarified that these residents retain the right to appeal until the final decision is made. At present, 179 structures remain pending verification, including 36 public toilets, two religious sites, and one utility building. These are currently under review by agencies such as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and BEST, after which the list will be updated.
As per the regulations, all residential, commercial and industrial structures built before January 1, 2000 qualify for redevelopment. Eligible homeowners will be provided with a 350-square-foot flat — around 17% larger than the standard size granted under other slum rehabilitation schemes in Mumbai. Commercial and mixed-use structures will be allotted up to 225 square feet free of cost, with any additional area charged at government-determined rates.
Officials said the updated list marks a crucial step towards accelerating the Dharavi redevelopment while ensuring transparency and fair rehabilitation. To support this, a four-tier grievance redressal system has been put in place for residents.
