September 10, 2025: Mumbaikars now have a digital tool to monitor the city’s road concreting projects from the comfort of their homes. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has rolled out a public dashboard that provides real-time updates on road works. The move, part of the civic body’s goal for a “pothole-free Mumbai,” is aimed at improving transparency and encouraging citizen participation.
Accessible at roads.mcgm.gov.in/publicdashboard, the platform displays ward-wise and zone-wise details of completed, ongoing, and pending projects. A colour-coded map helps users easily track the pace of work across different areas.
According to officials, the large-scale concreting initiative, launched in January 2023, has achieved 50.19 per cent completion. Under Phase 1, covering 700 roads, progress stands at 63.53 per cent, while Phase 2, involving 1,421 roads, has reached 36.84 per cent. Of the 2,121 identified roads, 771 are fully concreted, 574 are partially done, and 776 yet to begin. Phase 1 is targeted for completion by May 2026, with Phase 2 expected by May 2027. Works paused during the monsoon will resume from October 1.
Abhijit Bangar, additional municipal commissioner (projects), explained the purpose of the dashboard: “People often complain about the lack of reliable information on road works. This system will allow residents to know when a project is starting, when it is due for completion, and to compare records with actual progress.”
The portal also provides timelines for future works, expected completion periods, and details of stretches yet to be taken up. Users can search by road names to track updates in a simple format.
For quality assurance, the BMC has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, which will serve as an independent third-party monitoring agency. This added oversight is expected to further strengthen accountability in the project.
