September 10, 2025: On World EV Day, Tata Power Company Limited, in collaboration with Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, inaugurated Mumbai’s first large-scale premium EV charging hub under the TATA.ev MegaCharger initiative.
The co-branded facility was jointly launched by Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & Managing Director of Tata Power, and Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
Strategically located near Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, within the premises of The Leela Mumbai Hotel, the hub is designed to cater to the city’s growing community of electric vehicle users. From private car owners to taxi fleets, ride-hailing operators and logistics companies, the station’s prime location also makes it accessible to business travellers, tourists, and professionals commuting across the busy Andheri–BKC–South Mumbai corridor.
Equipped with eight fast DC chargers offering speeds of up to 120 kW and 16 charging bays, the MegaCharger can service 16 vehicles at once, reducing waiting times and ensuring a seamless experience even during peak hours. Importantly, the hub is powered entirely by renewable energy, aligning with Tata Power’s commitment to sustainability.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Sinha said the project reflects Tata Power’s integrated approach to accelerating India’s green mobility transition. “Strategically located and powered by renewable energy, this hub sets a benchmark for future-ready EV infrastructure,” he remarked.
Shailesh Chandra described the initiative as a milestone in Tata Motors’ mission to expand reliable charging infrastructure nationwide. “Our partnership with Tata Power has been pivotal in building India’s EV charging ecosystem, and this launch marks the first of many such installations,” he said.
The Lion Gate facility adds to over 1,000 Tata Power charging points already present in Mumbai, part of India’s largest EV charging network spanning 630 cities. Nationwide, Tata Power operates more than 5,500 public and captive chargers and aims to expand to 10,000 public stations and 7.5 lakh home chargers by 2030.
Open to all EV users, the TATA.ev MegaChargers also provide exclusive benefits for Tata EV owners, including discounts and priority access, managed through the Tata Power EZ Charge app.
