Thane Residents Protest Over Potholes And Traffic Chaos On Ghodbunder Road

September 13, 2025: Residents of Ghodbunder Road in Thane staged a dramatic protest at the Anand Nagar signal on Friday to highlight worsening traffic congestion and dangerous road conditions caused by potholes. In a symbolic act, demonstrators lay down on the road with their heads inside potholes and their feet raised in the air, visually portraying the everyday struggles of commuters.

The protest was aimed at pressing local authorities to take urgent action on repairing potholes and managing traffic on Ghodbunder Road, one of the city’s busiest corridors. Thousands of residents rely on this arterial road, but poor infrastructure and traffic mismanagement have made daily travel increasingly difficult. Protesters said their unique demonstration reflected the desperation of commuters who must navigate unsafe and congested stretches every day.

The demonstration also highlighted the risks faced by motorists and pedestrians. Residents emphasized that timely intervention is critical to prevent further accidents and ensure smoother travel.

Meanwhile, Ghodbunder Road witnessed a major accident earlier this week. On Wednesday morning, two container trucks collided near the Gaimukh Ghat area, resulting in injuries to a traffic police officer. According to reports, one truck carrying 23 tons of plastic bags from Gujarat lost control near the Gaimukh police post and crashed into another truck transporting a 16-ton machine from Mumbai toward Gujarat.

Naik Tadvi, a Thane Traffic Branch officer on duty, was struck during the collision. He sustained serious injuries to his head and leg and was rushed to a private hospital in Ghodbunder, where he received five stitches on his leg and three on his head. The accident caused massive traffic congestion, with vehicle queues stretching from Ghodbunder Ghat to Fountain and Navghar.
