September 16, 2025: Mumbai has once again come to a grinding halt following heavy monsoon showers that left large parts of the city waterlogged and traffic paralysed. The relentless downpour triggered congestion across major roads, with frustrated commuters voicing anger over recurring infrastructure lapses during the rainy season.
Amidst this criticism, a surprising claim has ignited debate online. An X user, posting under the handle @marinebharat, asserted that Mumbai’s infrastructure surpasses that of Singapore. Sharing a video of a public bus journey in the island nation, the user wrote: “After personal experience I am saying this that Mumbai Infrastructure is better than Singapore. Be it roads, metro. Their gardens are too good! CCTV infra is way way better being part of Greater China. Also I do not have low self-esteem and I don’t get easily swayed. Ours is simply better! The post quickly gained traction, amassing over 100,000 views and sparking a spirited exchange on the state of Mumbai’s infrastructure. Some users responded with biting sarcasm, one remarking: “Totally agree with your unbiased comparison! Mumbai’s pothole adventure is unmatched, and our metro is practically a thrill ride. Why settle for Singapore’s boring smooth roads and efficient systems when we have the action-packed chaos of Mumbai?”
Others, however, highlighted that while Mumbai has seen improvements in certain pockets, its scale and chronic issues remain unmatched. “Bombay drowns in the monsoon every year. There’s no comparison – potholes everywhere, roads submerged, and contracts riddled with corruption,” another user observed.
Meanwhile, heavy rain continued for a second consecutive day. The Colaba observatory recorded 88.2 mm of rainfall between Sunday and Monday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red nowcast warning for Mumbai at 8.30 am, cautioning of intense rain in the following hours.
