Navi Mumbai Civic Body Demolishes Illegal Structures In Airoli

September 16, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in Airoli on Monday after property owners failed to respond to repeated notices regarding unauthorised construction.

The action was initiated on the orders of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and executed under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The encroachment department targeted unauthorised structures at plots B-86, SE-03, and J-26, SE-03, belonging to Ratnaprabha Kadam and Madru Kupya Ragya.

Officials said that notices had earlier been issued under Sections 53(1A) and 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, directing the owners to remove the constructions themselves. However, despite warnings, building activity continued, prompting civic intervention.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Sunil Kathole, who is also in charge of the Airoli division. A penalty of Rs 50,000 was levied, with each property owner paying Rs 25,000. The demolition team comprised encroachment officers, seven labourers, two breakers, a gas cutter, and police personnel to maintain law and order.

NMMC officials emphasised that the drive was part of an ongoing campaign to curb illegal construction within municipal limits. They underlined that strict enforcement of planning laws was essential to protect the city’s development framework and ensure public safety.

“The corporation will continue to act against unauthorised structures without exception. Residents are urged to comply with building norms and seek proper approvals before commencing construction,” a senior official said.

By combining legal provisions with fines and physical enforcement, the civic administration hopes to send a strong deterrent message. Similar demolition drives are expected to continue across Navi Mumbai in the coming weeks.
