September 17, 2025: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) intensified its anti-encroachment drive by demolishing an unauthorised structure in Koparkhairane after the owner failed to comply with earlier directives. The action was carried out on instructions from Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr. Kailas Gaikwad.
The property, located at Plot No. 25, Sector-5, and owned by Mr. Sandeep Janardhan Patil, had previously been served a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. As the owner did not adhere to the order, the NMMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department proceeded with demolition, partially razing the structure and imposing a penalty of INR 25,000.
Assistant Commissioner Bharat U. Dhande, along with Junior Engineer Chandrakant Dhotre, led the on-ground operation, supported by municipal staff and a police contingent to maintain security. The drive utilised a JCB machine, two electronic hammers, a pickup van, and four labourers to carry out the demolition efficiently.
Officials highlighted that this action is part of a broader planned campaign against illegal structures in Koparkhairane and across the city. The NMMC has affirmed its commitment to intensifying such measures, combining legal notices, monetary penalties, and strict field execution to discourage unauthorised construction.
By enforcing compliance with municipal regulations, the civic body aims to safeguard Navi Mumbai’s planned urban growth. “Such interventions will remain rigorous, reinforcing municipal governance and protecting planned urban development,” an official stated.
The demolition reflects NMMC’s firm stance on unlawful constructions, signalling that violations will not be tolerated as the city pushes for orderly development in both residential and commercial zones.
