The state-of-the-art terminal is expected to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and position Mumbai as a leading cruise tourism destination.
Spanning over 415,000 square feet, the MICT is India’s largest cruise terminal and is designed to handle up to one million passengers annually. The facility can accommodate five cruise ships simultaneously and features 72 check-in and immigration counters to ensure a smooth and efficient experience for travellers.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, emphasised the terminal’s significance, noting Mumbai’s rich maritime history and its role as a key coastal hub. “Mumbai has long served the nation with its bustling coastal business. The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of transforming India into a global cruise hub,” he said.
The MICT is expected to not only boost tourism but also provide a major impetus to the coastal economy, creating new employment opportunities and promoting India’s presence in the international cruise circuit. With modern facilities and cutting-edge infrastructure, the terminal represents a landmark in India’s maritime ambitions.
