September 22, 2025: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has unveiled plans for a 4.2-kilometre flyover along the heavily congested LBS Marg, connecting Kalpana Talkies in Kurla West to Pankhe Shah Baba Dargah in Ghatkopar West. The corridor is notorious for daily traffic snarls, particularly at major junctions such as the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road, Ghatkopar Station Road, and Sant Narsi Mehta Road, along with several smaller intersections that exacerbate congestion.
The proposed flyover will be a four-lane, two-way structure designed to bypass key choke points. Specific junctions targeted for relief include Shreyas junction, Sarvodaya Hospital junction, and the signal near the BMC yard at Sant Narsi Mehta Road. The civic body has engaged Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) to develop detailed designs and construction methodology for the project.
Given the presence of ongoing infrastructure projects along the stretch, including the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation’s road overbridge connecting Ghatkopar East and West and the Metro line near Sarvodaya Hospital, the flyover will be constructed at a second level, above the Metro corridor, ensuring minimal disruption to existing developments.
Activist Anil Galgali welcomed the proposal, highlighting persistent bottlenecks near Phoenix Marketcity mall, Kurla Depot, and the Shreyas signal, which often push motorists onto the Eastern Express Highway, worsening congestion across the city.
The new flyover aims to provide much-needed relief for daily commuters, streamline traffic flow, and enhance connectivity along one of Mumbai’s busiest arterial roads. With design and planning underway, the project is expected to become a key component of the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize road infrastructure and tackle urban traffic challenges.
